Sure, he’s won his share of ACM, CMA and Grammy awards, not to mention all the No. 1 hits and sold-out tours – all proof that Tim McGraw can really rock a crowd. But now he’s earning accolades for his ability to rock… a hat.
The “Shotgun Rider” singer has been inducted into the Headwear Hall of Fame this year in acknowledgement of his “signature style” – and how well he wears it.
However, McGraw jokes that his famous topper is actually just covering up an insecurity.
“Of course the cowboy hat is who I am in my music, but I’ve never been real comfortable with the way I looked without a hat,” the singer, 47, has told PEOPLE. “I have what I call a ‘fivehead’. I don’t have a forehead, I have a ‘fivehead.’ I always felt that I had a really big head. But that’s one of those things about getting older – you get more comfortable with yourself.”
